Calameo or Issuu ? the best free online publishing solutions
Before writing this post, I confess I was an Issuu-addict, already using Issuu for my company. My first try with Calameo was disappointing : I got the feeling that my publications had for only purpose to make them known.I have to admit that competition has given way to improvement for both services, and the user is the winner !
Comparison Issuu / Calameo
Both apps provide such funtionnalities as :
- profile description, with really good visibility on Google for Calameo
- multiple-files upload, including from URLs
- publishing options : public/private, printable or not, downloadable or not…
- sharing : embedding, sharing to Facebook, Digg and others… Issuu offers specific embeds for Blogger, WordPress or Joomla and the possibility to use your own theme.
And the winner is…
If I need to address a Country-specific audience, I would use Calameo, a powerful yet ergonomic solution that all users should appreciate. In a multi-language environnement, I would recommend Issuu.
Calameo advertizes Premium and Platinum accounts (12 and 48 € / month), that you will need if you don’t want their logo to be everywhere… There is a Pro account for Issuu : 19 $ /month. If anyone has tested these services, I would be happy to get feedbacks. If you just read the provided services, Issuu seems to be the best value for money.
